~ President's Message ~
I often get asked why I am a member of ADHA/CDHA/ SFDHS. Why is it important?
To me it is important because ADHA is the ONLY organization protecting the rights of dental hygienists. We are at an exciting time in the history of dental hygiene! Although the profession has been evolving for over one hundred years, I think that in 10 years the role of the hygienist will be dramatically different from what we know today.
For example: Right now we have far too many hygienists without any jobs... We also have far too many people without any dental care... How can we bridge this gap? Change has to happen; and I need the comfort of knowing that there is an entire association supporting me and my progressing profession.
Besides aiding with the future, ADHA also has numerous member benefits to take advantage of today! Find out more!

October 2011
~ National Dental Hygiene Month! ~
The SF Dental Hygienists show how much they care about our kids' oral health every month by volunteering to screen and/or teach parents. October, National Dental Hygiene Month was a big one for our component!!
Foster Kids Health Fair in Bayview
Oct. 1st. Foster parents and kids was a fun event with screening and education for parents. Nora Yamada, RDH; Karina Pereira, RDH; Ashlee Trueb, RDH; Fivel Muntian, RDH; and Katy Allen, RDH stepped up to screen kids and educate foster parents.
20 kids screened: 13 = Class I, 7 = Class II.
Kai Ming Head Start Dental Screening
October 11th. Ursula Maberley, RDH and Michael LaFlamme, RDH taught SFSU School of Nursing students how to do oral health screens for preschoolers. Not only did they screen the kids and allow the health workers at the school case-manage these kids into care, but they taught a skill to future nurses. Therefore protecting the oral health of hundreds of kids in the future! 42 kids screened. 21 = Class I, 19 = Class II, 2 = Class III.
Valencia MNHC Clinic
Oct. 14th. Michael Long, RDH, our past president, volunteered again to screen pediatric patients at Mission Neighborhood Health Center on Valencia. He also provided education to parents. This is part of our SF Dental Hygiene Society "Adopt a Clinic Project," where volunteer hygienists go into community Clinics to provide education to new parents, screen the toddlers, and place fluoride varnish.
Way to go SF Dental Hygiene Society!! Your hearts are golden, and your hands do the work! Many thanks for all you do!! |
